Thanks to all who attended today's MSP-EMD Field Operations Workshop held at
Allegan, Michigan. The Workshop was well attended by radio amateurs from
throughout Southwest Michigan. Those that attended brought many good ideas
to share with their fellow ARES/RACES members.
After a three hour classroom session, a field exercise was conducted in
downtown Allegan. A variety of capabilities were established, including HF
SSB and CW, VHF and UHF-FM, VHF-SSB, and VHF Packet Radio. Our
participants connected to Packet BBS systems and packet facilities as far
away as Detroit and Flint Michigan and originated messages utilizing the QMN
Packet Radio Network. In addition, two test priority messages were
originated via NREN on 30-meters, with turn-around confirmation received
from the addressees in less than two minutes!
A special thanks to Allegan County for providing the Community Center
meeting facility and to Kalamazoo County Emergency Management, Kalamazoo
County ARES/RACES, and the LOST Team for brining out their emergency
response vehicles, and other equipment.
We had a great time!
Thanks, and 73!
