Below is a message from Joel Goldberg W8HIU, EC of Oakland County.
Like our Free Press Marathon, this is a VERY large event and volunteers from
other counties are welcome. If you would like to participate in this event,

                      WOOD WARD AVENUE DREAM CRUISE 2003
                       SATURDAY,AUGUST 16

                 This year's Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise activity has
become an even larger event for licensed Amateur Radio operators. The
activity is being coordinated by the Oakland County ARPSC, under the
leadership of Barry Kaufman,WD8JWM.

                    We have been asked to provide radio coverage to each of
the lcoal public safety post sites centers along Woodward Avenue. They will
run from Ferndale to Pontiac, Woodward Avenue street coverage will be from
Berkley in the south to Birmingham in the north.

                    Two shifts are planned. The day shift will start by
11:00 AM and it will end at 4:00PM. The afternoon / evening shift will start
at 4:00 PM and end around 10:00PM

                       YOUR ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED-55 HAMS ARE REQUIRED
                         FOR THIS ACTIVITY

PLEASE CALL THE COUNTY EOC OFFICE TO VOLUNTEER AND REGISTER FOR A
POSITION/TIME----CALL (248) 858-5300

              You will need a hand-held 2 meter radio and a least one extra
battery pack. Preferred assignments will be made as you offer your
assistance. Our understanding is that food will be provided to all
volunteers this year.

   IN SEPTEMBER, the County will be participating in a large scale simulated
emergency training exercise , named TOP-EX which will involve hams as well
as County agencies, hospitals, Police and Fire and other agencies . Details
for our participation will be issued by late August.
