The following events are scheduled in the Grand Rapids area for April
2002 and beyond. Anyone interested are welcome at these events:

The monthly meeting of the Grand Rapids Amateur Radio Association (GRARA)
is Friday the 5th, 7PM, at the American Red Cross building, 1050 Fuller
Ave NE between the Ford I-196 expressway and Leonard ST. Talk-in 147.26+

Note, the W8DC ham shack at the Red Cross building is open for use
Wednesdays 7:15PM to about 9 or after. Be sure to have a copy of your

The monthly meeting of the Michigan Amateur Radio Alliance (MARA) is
Thursday the 11th, 7:30PM, at the Saint Adalberts Benevolent Society Aid
Hall, upstairs, NW corner of 5th St and Davis NW. Talk-in 145.41-

There will be a mini-swap Friday the 12th at the Red Cross Building,
6:30PM "until it ends". COMDAC of St Joseph / Benton Harbor will be
attending with their usual goodies as well as the rest of us with a few
surplus treasures and what-not to peddle. There is no charge for

the 13th, 9AM social, 10AM meeting, at the west end of Lowell High School

The monthly Kent County Emergency Services Team (KCEST) meeting is
Thursday the 25th, 7PM this month at the American Red Cross building,
1050 Fuller Ave NE between the Ford I-196 expressway and Leonard ST.
Training for damage assesment by Dave Devos KF8QL. Anyone with an
interest in emergency and public service communications is encouraged to

Be sure to join the weekly net, Wednesdays at 8PM on a rotating repeater

Of course, as part of the justification of the Amateur Radio service,
we're familiar with part 97.1(a) "Recognition and enhancement of the
value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial
communication service......". Volunteer amateur radio operators are
needed for these upcoming events:

OPERATION C.A.R.E. Memorial holiday weekend, Friday May 24 thru Monday
May 27, Rockford Rest Area SB US131 past M-57 14 Mile Rd exit #101,
before 10 Mile Rd exit #97. OK, this is not communications help per se,
but it is still public service that benefits holiday travelers and the
sponsors MARA and GRARA, which in turn benefits all of us. A shift signup
