Of course, as part of the justification of the Amateur Radio service,
we're familiar with part 97.1(a) "Recognition and enhancement of the
value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial
communication service......". Volunteer amateur radio operators are
needed for these upcoming events:
National 24 hour bicycle challenge (N24HC), Saturday, June 15, throughout
Barry County. Stop/Start at Thornapple-Kellogg High School in
Middleville. This will be the third year the course traverses near the
perimeter of Barry County, formerly in Kent County. There are check
points, course vehicles, and roaming vehicles needing amateur radio
communications. Contact Jack Amelar NY8D at (616) 897-6885 or

OPERATION C.A.R.E. Independence Day holiday weekend. This is
traditionally the toughest schedule to fill. Those of you hanging in town
should seriously consider volunteering. OK, this is not communications
help per se, but it is still public service that benefits holiday
travelers and the sponsors MARA and GRARA, which in turn benefits all of
us. Rockford Rest Area SB US131 past M-57 14 Mile Rd exit #101, before 10
Mile Rd exit #97. A shift signup form is at
http://www.w8dc.org/cgi-bin/coffee.pl
Operation C.A.R.E. will also take place on the Labor Day weekend.
