Yes, the Y cable is a pin for pin type. In fact, I have built up one of them
once for one of my 8505A units. I did get most of my interconnect cables on
ebay but they do become rather expensive. Regarding the GPIB/HPIB cables -
you are also right that they are daisy chained, but, unless you are going to
go to an external processor, none are needed. I do not have any HPIB cables
on any of my 8505A subunits. I really like mine, only wish it would go
higher in frequency. I do have all of the manuals, and, they are rather
large, especially for the two main units. Regards - Mike
