Hi all,
New here, so don't know if this has been covered. I have always loved the
RCA-77DX microphone (that gorgeous chrome pill shaped microphone, like the one
David Letterman used to have on his desk on The Late Show). It is a ribbon
microphone and as I understand it was very highly regarded as a great
broadcast microphone. I always thought it would be great to have one like that in
the ham shack, but they are collectors items now and very, very expensive.
However, I just found a place on line that sell reproduction RCA 77DX
microphone shells. They are completely empty, and you can put whatever microphone
guts you want in there. My question is, how hard is it to take apart another
microphone and put the electronics and microphone element in there with the
push to talk switch, etc.? Secondly, given that I can probably fit most any
modern microphone in there, what would you chose to put in there?
