I have an Ameritron ALS-600 HF amplifier that is the older type,
without the "remote" control. It is serial number 11764, an
apparently was purchased in 1995.

I have a question about it, but this amp came from a silent key, so I
can not ask him.

Before I fired up the amp, I wanted to check it out and clean out the
dirt, etc. In the process, I found that a wire is disconnected. In
the amplifier portion, once one opens the top, there is a small (about
1 by 1 1/2 inch) PC board in the right rear, just in front of the
output connector cage. This small PC board has a PC pot, a diode and
a cap on it, with a gray wire that goes to the ALC board and is
connected to pin 5 of J104, which is the ALC connection. The output
of this board (or maybe it is the input) also has a gray wire, that
then is covered with teflon tube and has a 3.3 K resistor on the end.
The problem is that this end of the wire is not connected to
anything. It looks like it might have gone to the right side of the
filter board, from the length of the wire. Only thing is, there is no
obvious place that this was connected.

It does not look like it just fell off. It would seem to have
something to do with the ALC, but I have no idea what. The board is
not show in the schematic. One guess is that it was added ALC for
something, and then later disconnected.

Does any one have any idea what it is for, and where the loose end
should be connected?

Thanks.
