[MFJ-Ameritron] MFJ 249 Question.

I have an antenna analyser, the MFJ-249, NOT the "B" version.  I bought it
used, no documentation.  I have never had a need to use the frequency
counter until now.  I connected a small antenna, about 6" long to the
counter input and transmitted near it with my 5W HT.  No reading.  I moved
closer and closer until I was about 1\2" from the small antenna, no reading.

How much power is required to activate the counter?

Should I connect to the counter input direct?

What is the maximum power allowed at the counter input?
