Well Duane, that would help but then the unit is not in the ready to
use
condition and it is very inconvenient to remove all the screws and
pull the batteries out of their holders. I will do a very close
inspection with a powerful magnifier and look for any bad solder
connections. Their quality control has definitely taken a back seat,
at least in the last 3 items I purchased. I fixed the others myself
but ins't that a kick in the rear since they are not selling a kit.
John, it is good to hear that for a change it is not just my
imagination when a trouble like this appears. I will examine the
circuit and see if I can discover what is causing it. When the
warranty is up, I will modify the unit to remove all battery power
when it is shut off. There is no reason for any memory hold charge as
far as I know.
I will write to you separately John, and discuss some other
difficulties.
Thanks and 73, Dick KF4NS

Keep the glow!

| Solution: remove batteries when not in use. There is a drain
someplace there
| should not be.
|
| This is conjucture on my part, but there was a time when MFJ was
farming out the
| soldering to local ladies in their homes. So bad solder joints? Bet
on it.

| My 259b does the same thing. I charge the batteries and then a few
days
| later the voltage drops even though the unit is turned off.
|
| While I was at the Miami Hamboree in February I asked one of the
fellows at
| the MFJ booth and he said that this is normal. He wouldn't say why
this
| happens. I bought a new set of Nimh cells (they are not cheap)
because I
| thought the first set was bad. I guess I need to keep the 252B
floating on
| my charger at all times in order for it to work when I need it.
