Thanks to everyone for all the helpful responses. I got the manual and schematic from MFJ and starting digging into it. The 1N34A diodes, d1 an d2 are indeed the problem, at least they don't check out right with the VOM so I am going to start with replacing them and see what happens from there. This tuner is a simple design, I thought there would be more too it but was surprised to see such a sparsely populated PCB in there. Only a handful of components on it, so I will start with the diodes and see if that fixes it, if not I will just keep making my way through the circuit to the meter.
