[MFJ-Ameritron] mfj voice keyer question

MFJ 434 VOICE KEYER    

There is a jack on the back that says mic.
But if I try to feed my microphone from this port,
No voice file is sent to my FT1000MP.

The voice message works normally if connected to the front
panel to the Yaesu.

I can't really find any info in the manual about this.
