I've got the MFJ-969 tuner. Out of the box and brand new I found a loose
wire that should have been snapped in place at the end of one of the tuning
capacitors. Simply snapped back into place. No solder joint problems. Very
good results at 100 watt level. My opinion is that the clip was knocked out
of place during shipping but it did leave me glad that I took a look before
using.
I use it to flatten a 75 meter full wave loop using balanced "ladder" line.
I also use it to flatten a 20 meter dipole for 20 through 10. Believe it or
not, it does work well on 6 meters with the loop or dipole.
On 160 meters I use the 75 meter loop against station ground with good
reports.
Adjustments are repeatable so that if you take the time to make a tuning
chart you can come back to that frequency with no tweaking needed.
I'd buy it again but I'd also open it for inspection.
If I had $450 to spent on a tuner, I would buy the 238 made by Ten-Tec (just
down the road!).
