8877s have a reputation as reliable tubes statistically, however any 
product made can fail, that's why you got a warranty.  I'm also glad it 
failed within the warranty period

I don't normally use an amplifier, however all of the folks I know with 
8877 based amps seem well pleased.  Consider it good timing in the 
failure mode, and hope that the replacement lives up to the reputation 
of 8877s.
