Hello,
Joop, you are not right in this point. If one is only interested in MS,
your argument is ok. But please do not forget that many of us are
interested in wide spread fields withing DXing. For example, my personal
DXing interests range from 80m to 70cm. At least for some of those bands
or at least at certain times, the use of DX Cluster can be usefull.
But with the actual BIG amount of MS-related selfspotting or even
information exchange in Cluster, the risk is high to loose informations
just due to the big amount of - sorry - useless spots. And that's not
just a problem only for me, but for the whole HAM community using the
DX-cluster.
Some (more than 5) years ago, the VHF community started to use the
world-wide packet convers network (after some good experiences we made
the time before with a regional VHF DX convers network in DL). THIS is
the right place for those "self-spotting" activities.
Please leave the cluster free from self-spots and similar information
exchange, it only reduce the real performance of the Cluster for ALL
users, at least for those which do want to do more than only 2m MS.
Or, at least do not use the DX command for this, if you do not have
access to the world wide convers network - use the ann/full command.
I bet: If, during the last day, there would have been a short sporadic-e
opening (it already happened years ago in January...) on 2m, many people
wouldn't have seen a single, corresponding spot due to MS "QRM" in the
cluster.
By the way, filtering 144.350 - 144.400 isn't a good idea too, what
happens if, during the next contest, you also want to read spots about
analogue DX between 144.350 and 144.400 ? You have to reconfigurate your
filtering every time.. (Don't forget, 144.350 - 144.400 is still
assigned to SSB and CW too, not only to MGMs. And not to forget,
SELF-SPOTTING is not a mode-related problem. It is a "don't do" in ALL
modes on EVERY band below 430 MHz or 1.2 GHz. Probably with very view
exceptions. In some contests, self-spotting is explicitely forbidden !
