I think you need more information. For instance, how far away was the other
station?  Airplane reflection is not going to allow you to hear a station
1600 KM away, for instance.  Hearing only a single short signal via airplane
reflection is very unusual.  Normally you will hear the station for at least
30 seconds, with a fast fluttery QSB if you are also hearing the station
direct, or with a steady but weak signal if only hearing him via airplane
reflection.  A 500 ms burst sounds like MS to me.  Meteor scatter bursts
have a lot of different characteristics, depending on a lot of things.  Is
the ionization over dense or under dense? What is the path of the meteor
with relation to the direction between the two stations?  A lot of other
unknowns exist.

Often the MS signals are the traditional pings or longer burns, but
sometimes they sound very much like a tropo or ES signal fading up out of
the noise for a short time.
