Kenneth
I recall a similar question from you a few months ago. At that time I
pointed you to some useful web sites which included software which would
help to answer your questions. Presumably you have not had a chance to check
these out?
Radcom also gives brief details of forthcoming showers in the monthly
VHF/UHF column. I can thoroughly recommend that you join the RSGB and take
advantage of the facilities.
For now, the brief details are that the Quadrantids shower is expected to
peak at around 2300 on 3rd January. Reflections should be quite good, but
the duration of the shower is relatively short so you need to be around the
peak plus or minus 3 or 4 hours or so. Pointing your beam either east or
south-east should be fruitful. The geometry of the shower is less favourable
for north-south contacts.
Seeing that you are on the west coast of Cumbria, you may find that beaming
into the hills east of you is a problem. However, remember that the meteors
are causing ionisation in the area of 100km above the earth and so to a
certain extent the signals are coming from an elevation of say 10degrees.
Good luck
