Here's a special request from Dr. Noah Brosch (the meteor researcher who
believes he detected burns at twice the expected altitude during previous
storms - more on this at <http://www.qsl.net/w8wn/hscw/prop/brosch.html>
and follow the links).
If any propagation beyond about 2400 km (and especially beyond 2550 km) is
noted, please save the reception, if possible, and forward complete
information to Dr. Brosch, <[email protected]>
.
Please relay this on to others who will be attempting to operate during the
upcoming Leonids Storm.
(Summary of predictions on the Hot News page, and links to a number of
Leonids sites at the bottom of that page).

>Subject: Leonids 2002
>I wonder whether it would be possible to ask the
>community of meteor scattering observers to pay
>special attention to the activity over the
>Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean during the
>upcoming Leonid storms. This is because of the
>concentrated airborne activity that will take place
>over these areas.
>
>In order to observe the first peak at 04:00UT a
>special flight will take place over the Eastern
>Mediterranean Sea, a bit south of Cyprus. The airplane
>will carry intensified video cameras and the
>ionosphere space above it will be scanned by a
>state-of-the-art radar system, as done for previous
>Leonid storms.
>
>This peak and the second one, at ~10:30UT, will be
>observed from two NASA planes organized by Peter
>Jenniskens. Information about the scientific
>activities to be conducted on these aircraft can be
>found at the Leonid MAC web site
>(leonid.arc.nasa.gov).
>
>In order to clarify the nature of the high-altitude
>radar echoes it would be very helpful to receive
>information about very long distance contacts. Note
>that there is a possibility the single-bounce contacts
>will be very brief, only a few seconds in duration.
>
>Sincere thanks,
>
