Russ,
There is clearly some amiss here! Either that, or this crew is the most =
clueless about the normal conventions of operating practice for =
DXpeditions that I've ever seen!
Now, having said that...perhaps they can help to start to convince me by =
answering a few questions:
Who provided lodging? Where is their travel record? How did he enter =
Canada? Did anyone see him?
This crew is going to need to document a bit to convince me...
73,
Gordon

Yes, and also it is strange that he said he would be on "simplex" using
144.200 listening for any EU stations who wish to try.... Very strange
choice of frequency, and also no way to set up a WSJT contact.
According to Buckmaster N2PIG is from the Rochester NY area but the weak
signal VHF guys there don't seem to know him - "maybe heard him on FM".
That FM part ties in with his use of the word "simplex".

This is also strange, in order to make a contact like that they would =
have
to spend hours and hours every day on the radio, transmitting with high
power. It seems like operators in Ireland would have heard this. Also =
it
appears that this operator has had no prior experience using WSJT or =
meteor
scatter in general - no one here in the east (USA) has heard of him.
I hate to be suspicious because I know how I would feel if I =
accomplished
something like this and then people doubted me but I do have to agree =
that
this seems like an early April fool joke!

PS: Also, why all the secrecy? And why did he not say what frequency =
they
were using, and why not specify the grid square of the Newfoundland =
station.
And why not give stations in Canada and the USA a chance to work him =
while
he was there? That alone would have lent some credence to his claim. =
And
why wait 5 days after the alleged contact before announcing it?
