Hi everyone
Since I'm accepted into the list, I'll give some info on myself & my
equipment.
I'm 35 years of age & unemployed. I have been DXing for nearly 20 years now
& I'm mainly interested in MW, FM & TV. I like getting Skip, tropo, F2,
Auroral backscatter, aircraft bounce & of course MS!
I got interested in meteors since hearing the 1998 Leonids although I did
capture some recordings from the 1991 & 1994 Leonids & 1994 Geminids (big
trains that year!).
I use 2x 12 element "Log periodic" FM antennas (gain 12.3 dbi each)
seperately mounted on water pipe masts (both horizontal). I use a
metropolitan TV/FM type antenna on my car radio (which has amazing pickup
BTW).
My main Tuners are
SONY ST-SA5ES RDS tuner
Marantz St-400
TEAC T-515
SONY XRS-300 car radio.
Realistic Pro-2004 scanner.
All except the TEAC/Realistic are fitted with 110k murata filters.
Suprisingly, the car radio only uses 1 ceramic filter. Most FM receivers
seem to have 2 or 3. The car radio is excellent on both AM & FM.
I recently had a phasing unit built but don't use it for MS due to a 2db+
loss. I don't have any preamps to compensate.
Could someone build me a tunable preamp for FM?
I don't have the technical knowledge to do so & am unable to comprehend
electronics etc. I have very limited technical knowledge, although I do my
own mods like inserting filters & coax sockets (amazing how so many tuners
come without these) & bypassing FM muting by cutting a track on the board
usually.
Cooma is located in southern NSW & I live nearly 1000m above sea level. Have
only a few local FM stations, so there are many clear channels for MS.
I'd better shut up now.
