To All ARES Members Locally and Statewide:
Looks like it's going to happen. The spaghetti models are slowly beginning to converge and some time tomorrow we'll see a 'solution' to the landfall area and times.
I don't have to tell you anything you don't already know, but as a reminder:
- Nobody should be asked to deploy us in the middle of the storm. In fact one of the cardinal rules is, you don't. Tell them they will have to wait. Nets during the storm, always appropriate. Keep your EC/RO informed of anything of significance.
- Family comes first, then help a neighbors the best you can. If you are trapped in your neighborhood because of downed trees and still have antennas for comms, survey your neighbors and see if they are in need of any critical care requirements and get the word out.
- Tree with the leaves still on will cause much of the power outages. Carry a flashlight at all times. Have one for every member of your family. It doesn't need to be kilowatt size. A small pocket size unit will suffice. Predictions say that outages in the Wash DC metro area will be lengthy due to the wide spread area with limited repair crews. Hint: batteries!
I will take sit reps as you desire to send them either through the reflector, direct through AOL or Winlink. . .not mandatory. If our HF antennas survive, I will have WinMOR P2P running on 7070 dial if you care to try. Might be a little fun.
Be safe. . .take care of yourselves and your family. . .and we'll see ya down the log!
tnx es 73, de
Jim
