Comments:

Anne Arundel County: Supporting the July 4 Parade were ARES members N3SEO , 
K3YLW, KA2JAI, WA2ILU, WB3IGW, K3WD, WA5VHU, KD5CCB, & K3TED.

Garrett County: The Garrett County ARES monthly meeting was held on June 
11th. Upcoming events the Garrett County ARES group will be supporting 
include the September Savageman Triathlon and the October Garrett County 
Autumn Glory Special Event.  The Garrett County ARES (GCARES) monthly 
meetings will be held at the Garrett County Southern Rescue Squad located 
on route 135 east of Oakland Maryland. The next meeting will be Monday 
August 13th at 7:00 PM.  The GCARES net is held weekly on Sunday evenings 
at 8:00 PM on the 146.805 repeater, dup PL 123 and is linked to the WAN and 
Target Link Repeater Systems. All traffic is FM voice.

Prince Georges County: West Virginia Storm Aid - Maryland "hams" respond to 
a plea for help from the Federal US Department of Health and Human Services 
(HHS), Washington, DC. Elleen Kane, of HHS had asked her husband, an 
employee at the Naval Air Systems Command, Paxtauent River, MD, how would 
be the best way to get survival information distributed to the citizens of 
WV. He contacted a co-worker, Shawn Donely, N3AE, of Calvert County for 
advice. Shawn sent an email to the MDC Section Manager, Jim Cross, WI3N, 
and two of his Assistant Section Managers, Steve Beckman, N3SB and Wanda 
Montgomery, KA3AHI asking for help. After receiving a phone call from 
Elleen, Wanda took the lead to help secure the assistance of the Amateur 
Radio community in Maryland to pass Public Service Announcements (PSAs) 
into WV for distribution by WV "hams" to the residents of storm stricken 
residents. In order to accomplishment this task, Wanda, KA3AHI, immediately 
sent regular emails to Ann Rinehart, KA8ZGY, Section Manager, Kanawha 
County, WV so that as the power and Internet service were brought back on 
line, Ann could get these messages relayed to the appropriate entities in 
her district for distribution. For further assistance Wanda turned to Al 
Nollmeyer, W3YVQ, MDC Assistant Section Manager for the National Traffic 
System. Al was able to pass the PSAs into Tucker County, WV via dedicated 
traffic handlers of the NTS system. Later on in the event, Wanda received a 
telephone call from Ken Harris, WA8LLM Section Emergency Coordinator, Wood 
County, WV regarding a phone call he received from Ann Rinehart regarding 
the task at hand. Ken was elated to know that an emergency connection 
between MDC and WV was in place should it be needed further assistance be 
needed. This catastrophic storm affected not only WV but Maryland and 
Washington, DC as well. Only four counties in WV escaped the adverse power 
conditions and wind damage of this storm. Given the wide spread disaster of 
the storm affecting all parties involved, those tasked with passing the 
PSAs to the residents of WV, did so as best they could and as quickly as 
possible. Nets: Held five regularly scheduled training VHF nets on 
146.61MHz on Tuesdays at 1930L. The monthly HF Hospital Net is held the 
Wednesday following the third Monday of the month on 3820KHz at 1930L. 
Meetings: Monthly meeting held the 3 Monday of the month at the Fire 
Services Building, 6820 Webster St, Landover Hills, MD at 1930. Eyeball 
QSOs at 1900.
