Anne Arundel County: ARES members supporting the Veterans Day 50K: K3TED,
KA3RNW, WA3HOO, N3WOF, KB3RFX, KB3TEW, W3RTX, KA2JAI. ARES members
supporting the Cold Turkey 10K: KA2JAI, N3WOF, KB3KWT, N3HKJ, W0NQW, N3SEO,
WA5VHU, K3RUP, W3DQT.
Garrett County: Bill Shomo (KB3FMJ) reviewed using amateur radio during
hurricane events. The group reviewed preparations for a local Simulated
Emergency Test for Garrett County that will test the group's ability to
pass traffic over a variety of repeater sites. The test is scheduled to
occur December 3rd over the Target Link Repeater system and simplex on
146.805. The Garrett County ARES (GCARES) monthly meeting location is
normally held at the Garrett County Southern Rescue Squad located on route
135 east of Oakland Maryland. The next meeting will be Monday December 12th
at 7:00 PM at the China Wok in Oakland MD on route 219 for the annual
Christmas party. Notice: The GCARES Net is normally held weekly on Sunday
evenings at 8:00 PM on the 146.805, dup PL 123 and is linked to the WAN and
Target Link Repeater Systems. Currently the repeater is experiencing
problems and the Net has been temporarily suspended.
Prince Georges County: Nets: Held four regularly scheduled training VHF
nets on 146.61MHz on Tuesdays at 1930L. The monthly HF Hospital Net was
held on November 23 with 11 check-ins. They were: KB3NJK, KC8CFM in Canton
OH, WA3YTK, NX3CSS, N3ADF, N3YWZ, KC8OYD mobile in MI, N6UW, AB3NA and
WB3KAS. November 11: Wired up and tested six 100amp-hr batteries at the
county EOC. Two providing inhouse comms backups with Power Gates and four
on standby charge, ready for deployment. November 16: Traced out a bad HF
coax cable at the EOC with the help of a Time Domain Reflectometer courtesy
of AA3WS. November 18: EC WB3KAS and AEC KA3AHI met with and presented to
Bob Mulladay, Southern Maryland Hospital Center Safety Officer, a proposal
for the future possibility of an RMS Packet Node installed at the hospital.
More discussions to follow. November 19: Held a Winlink 2000 RMS Express
and Airmail Peer-to-Peer training session in preparation for the January
Quarterly Hospital Drill. Six members brought in their equipment and set up
Express stations in the EOC training room. A combination of Airmail and
Express were used 2 of 2 to look for and adjudicate any potential
communication problems with transferring simple and complex messages among
the players. November 21: Held our last meeting of the year at the county
EOC. Next month's Holiday Social. It will be held at the Collington
Community Radio Club (KB3WOB) in Largo in conjunction with their on-the-air
debut. There will be no meeting in December. The next regular monthly ARES
meeting will be January 16.
