Comments:
Maryland-DC Section: The MDC Section participated in two webinars, along
with other Atlantic Division Sections, to make preparations for Hurricane
Earl. WPA SEC Larry Keller AB3ER and I have taken an action to develop a
Mutual Aid Plan for the Atlantic Division, so that we can coordinate and
streamline future responses in the Division.
Howard County: Howard County ARES provided support for the bicycle portion
of the Iron Girl Half Triathlon on Sunday, August 22. Ten operators were
used along the course including one in the lead car with APRS equipment
reporting the progress of the race leaders. HOWA ARES participants were
W8AJR (NCS), KF3O (ANCS-APRS), AA3S (ANCS), K3EF, WR3F, N3HOX, W3BXS,
KB3GJE, W0NQW, and W8AAS. Coverage was provided for five hours, from 0600
until 1100.
Allegany County: A VHF Winlink/packet station was installed at Western
Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Prince Georges County: Held four regularly scheduled VHF nets on 1st, 2nd,
3rd and 5th Tuesdays. Participated in National Night Out (NNO) on August
3rd. Asked to participate in Exercise Wind Wizard on August 26th by the
Prince George's County Health Care Coalition (separate PSR Report filed
with the League)
Calvert County: Held discussions with the team concerning hurricane season
preparations.
Wicomico County: Wicomico RACES/ARES took part in a drill sponsored by the
Maryland Department of Human Resources on August 11. The drill simulated
emergency evacuation (hurricane related) of foreign nationals working in
Ocean City. Volunteers were bused to the Purdue Stadium in Salisbury where
they were processed for relocation. Wicomico County RACES/ARES provided
emergency communications between the Ocean City Convention Center, the
route to Purdue Stadium, and the Wicomico County EOC. The Lower Shore
Chapter of the American Red Cross was also an active participant. Delmarva
Emergency Net: Sundays at 6:30 pm using 3.905 MHz - Primarily stations on
the Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware Eastern Shore. Net Control, Sussex
County Emergency Coordinator, Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) Local
Net: Delmarva Amateur Radio Enhancement Net every Monday night at 9:00 p.m.
The DAR Net is sponsored by the Delmarva Amateur Radio Club which is now an
ARRL Affiliated group operating a repeater on 146.820 MHz PL 156.7 Hz.
District of Columbia: DCARES mourns the loss of Bob, N3ZMT, SK. Working
with the Federal City React and ServeDC (CERT). Preparing to support the
Marine Corps Marathon on 31 October.
Garrett County: The group reviewed plans for supporting the September
Garrett County "Savage Man" triathlon. Also reviewed were repeater plans
for supporting county-wide communication. Due to recent lightning strikes
the Garrett County repeater lost connectivity to the Outback repeater
network. Link has since been restored to the "Target" repeater network. The
Garrett County ARES net is held weekly on Sunday evenings at 8:00 PM on the
Target Repeater System (primary repeater 146.805 -dup PL 123) all traffic
