National Weather Service Storm Spotter Basics I Class
Saturday, February 28
11 AM - 2:30 PM
Martin Hall (Engineering), Room 1202
University of Maryland College Park (UMCP)
Have you ever wanted to learn more about thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes
and other severe storms? Would you know how to protect yourself and others in a
severe weather emergency? Well, now's your chance to find out! The National
Weather Service is coming to the UMCP campus on Feb. 28 to teach their "Basics
I" introductory storm spotter class. There are no prerequisites, and anyone
over 14 years of age is eligible to become a certified storm spotter. The class
is FREE but please register online at http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~gcm/ (link) to
ensure a space. A free pizza/soda lunch will be provided to all courtesy of the
Graduate Student Government. If you have any questions, contact Anthony
Santorelli at asantor at atmos.umd.edu.
In addition, please note that several presentations from previous classes are
posted online at http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~gcm/wiki/skywarn.html (link)
including the "Basics II" class taught last November.
