To All MDC Section Emergency Coordinators, AECs and ARES members:

PRGE ARES has recently decided to enter the Winter Field Day, sponsored by The Society for the Preservation of Amateur Radio (SPAR), as an official training exercise for us. We will be operating the full 24-hr duration.

(see http://www.spar-hams.org/contests/winterfd/index.php)

It starts Saturday at noon through Sunday noon. PRGE ARES will be operating from the County's EOC, 6820 Webster St, Landover, MD, the same location some of you joined us in support of the Obama Inauguration three years ago.

Depending on the results of the general election in the Fall, there could be another inauguration event. We were very fortunate that nothing happened during the previous inauguration. However, we never seem to find time to really be ready and train for the 'biggy.' Here is an opportunity for you.

If we find that we have been asked to support an inauguration in 2013 and find it necessary to call on you for help, here is your opportunity. I invite you to come to our EOC this Saturday just to renew acquaintances, review directions to the EOC, meet the EC, AECs and PRGE members and operate if you'd like.

Some of you may be saying, why not have us in the Fall. Well, this time of year would be as close to realism as we think we could make it. Number one, January is the inauguration month and it is now January. Make it weather-real. Second, there will be lots of local busy comms at the ready all over the Metro area during the inauguration just like last time. A FD environment this weekend is not exactly a calm one. Third, this is a short notice event. Ever hear of a scheduled disaster??!! Me neither. Realistic? Well, maybe. . .maybe not, but a good time to practice.

This is an open invitation to join us. Plenty of parking out back. Arrive just before noon and join us for lunch in the "departure lounge." I or the RO will give you the $0.25 tour of the EOC. Stay as long as you'd like and get to know us, as much as we'd like to get to know our brothers and sisters in EmComm. We plan to put the word out to our county officials and invite them as well. A good attendance by you would bring a good showing for 'mutual aid' from our neighboring counties. Wear your call sign badges.

I guarantee it will be fun and informative for all of us.

Talk in will be on the 145.23 (-) pl 110.9 repeater located on top of Doctors Community Hospital, Lanham, MD, one of our served agencies in the County Health Care Coalition.
