Comments:
Garrett County: A presentation on the WAN Repeater system was give by Bill
Shomo (KB3FMJ) along with a refresher course on Emergency Message Handling
Procedures given by Pam Viner (N3HFC). The Garrett County ARES (GCARES)
monthly meeting location is held at the Garrett County Southern Rescue
Squad located on route 135 east of Oakland Maryland. The next meeting will
be Monday May 9th at 7:00 PM. The GCARES net is held weekly on Sunday
evenings at 8:00 PM on the 146.805, dup PL 123 and is linked to the WAN and
Target Link Repeater Systems. All traffic is FM voice.
Howard County: Howard County ARES kicked off our public service season with
a walk; the MS Walk centered at Howard Count Community College. Eleven
hams provided communications support using a combination of mobile rigs,
HTs, and 2 bicycle mobile stations. The organizers reported that more than
one thousand walkers participated and around $200,000 was raised. Ham
volunteers for this event included Coordinator Alan NG3B, NCS Dan N3YQ, Jim
KB3UZN, Chuck K3CRD, Rich WR3F, Terry KB3TVC, Larry W0NQW, Burt N3NFV, Doug
N3QW, Norm, KB3OLX, and Ed N3GXH.
Anne Arundel County: Supporting the Cherry Pit Run were: KA2JAI, N3WOF,
N3HKJ, W0NQW, K3TED, KB3VAQ, WA3HOO, KB3KWT, KB3RPX, K3RSJ, N3USP, N3YSA &
KA3RNW.
Cecil County: The Cecil County ARES group conducted an RF coverage survey.
During this survey, we assigned operators to all the designated Cecil
County shelters in order to determine communications equipment requirements
from each shelter. Results can be provided upon request. Participating were
Bob, KE4RDK, Bill, KB3JME, George, KB3LJB, Cliff, K3CF, Ted, W3YR, Will,
N3ZLL, Lynn, K3TKE, Alex, K3CIM, and Tom, KB3DCZ. The Cecil County ARES
group holds a weekly net every Sunday evening at 2000 local on the WA3SFJ
repeaters (146.850- PL 107.2, 449.825- PL 167.9, and 53.830- PL 94.8).
Primary will be the 2-meter repeater. All within earshot of the repeaters
are invited to join in regardless of ARES membership. Following the net we
have a Swap Shop "net" where hams are invited to list their
ham-radio-related items for sale or trade.
Calvert County: Met with CALV Director of Public Safety for three hours to
discuss placement of newly purchased CARA repeater (used) that is made
available to for EMCOMM. Special Recognition to Vince Thrasher/KB3FS to be
given at breakfast meeting June 18 at Dreamweaver Restaurant @0900 for 57
years of Amateur Radio service. CARA has supported EMCOMM since it was
founded in 1954. Vince is a Charter member who continually supports CARA,
RACES and ARES activities.
Carroll County: The Carroll team supported an MS Walk on Sunday April 10 at
the Farm Museum in Westminster. Supporting the event were Tony KF3AK, Bill
W2EGL, Joe KB3LNM, Terry KB3TVC, Phil KE3FL, Chuck N3TOT, Jeff K3QS, Andy
WO3L, Larry WX3F, and Steve N3SB. Voice Comms were conducted on the 145.410
CCARC VHF repeater, and MT-63 Digital Comms were conducted on the 449.875
CCARC UHF repeater. MT-63 worked without a hitch, and provided a
time-tagged log of activities to supplement the voice net.
