VXR-7000, Follow-up #1

Motorola now owns Vertex Standard and they're still selling (and thus, servicing) that repeater:  https://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/products/vertex-standard/vxr-7000.html

You'll see there are 2 VHF models -- it would be important to get the low-range model when shopping on eBay.

Info copied from:  https://www.repeater-builder.com/yvs/y-v-s-index.html

If you are going to buy a used VXR-7000, pay attention to the model number:
VXR-7000V-A = 136-150 MHz
VXR-7000V-C = 150-174 MHz
VXR-7000U-A = 400-430 MHz
VXR-7000UBS1= 420-450 MHz
VXR-7000U-D = 450-480 MHz
VXR-7000U-F = 480-512 MHz
Also note that the power is adjustable from 10 to 50w, but it's rated at 30w continuous.
The CE-27 software is required to program it. Documentation can be found in the service manuals.

For what it's worth......

The Vertex VXR-7000 seems to be a decent repeater.  The Manhattan club has one of the VHF units as their "emergency backup" and I just happen to be currently storing it for them.  I'm sure they wouldn't mind if I loaned it out for evaluation.  However, I'm sure they wouldn't want it permanently deployed!

I happen to own a VXR-7000 UHF version of that repeater and I also have the software and cable to program it (assuming I can find it) and I'd be glad to either loan that out or do the programming if the club bought a unit.

There's usually several of them on eBay and if you are patient you can snag a good deal on one.

Hi all.

With the checks I have done with the 147.285 repeater radio, it will
need to be sent in for repair.  After speaking with the Kenwood tech, I
took a look at the repair rates from the facility in California.  First
there is a $35 evaluation fee and then they get $110.00/hour + parts and
shipping.

I only have $300.00 in this radio to begin with and that could be the
cost of the repair, or more.  Is it worth it?

I can also query the repeater builder list to see if there is someone
that does such repairs.  There is a company out in Denver that I have
bought used radios from that may do such repairs.  I am also open to
suggestions.

At issue it appears to me that something in the squelch noise gate
circuitry has failed and is essentially desensing the receiver to the
point that only the highest level from my signal generator can be heard
through the receiver.  Of course, it is all surface mount stuff, and
mounted on the bottom of the board!  Well above my pay grade...
