Years ago there were three amateur radio clubs in the area, Blue Valley Repeater Association (Greenleaf Repeater), Marshall County Amateur Radio Repeater Association, and Marshall County Amateur Radio Club. The BVRA disbanded and MCARRA merged with MCARC.
MCARRA originally had the callsign KCØRJO and later got the WØDOD vanity callsign. MCARC originally had the callsign KBØTRG and later the WØGCJ vanity call sign. WØDOD was Bill Hamel’s callsign and WØGCJ was Earnie Wolf’s callsign.
I am the trustee for the WØDOD callsign. I did not realize it under a month or so ago, but the license for WØDOD expired in February of 2024. Renewing the license requires my signature as trustee along with an officer of the club. I am not sure who the officers would be. I liked getting the WØDOD callsign for Field Day. We tried that once and it didn’t work as nicely as we might have thought it would. We then started using the WØGCJ callsign for field day.
My own opinion is let the WØDOD callsign lapse. I can’t see us ever using it again for field day and someone with the initials of DOD might be happy to get it.
If there is an interest in having a meeting, it might be nice to have a program. Our recent conversation about logging programs, etc. might be a good topic but would probably require a location with internet.
What are your thoughts?
73.
