Subject: [LarrysList FYI] Cloning

Now that I have your attention, I want to relate a cloning issue the
Ararat Shrine Amateur Radio has and is experiencing.

Beginning in August, we began receiving highway toll invoices. The first
was the State of Illinois followed by the State of Kansas. The Illinois
invoice displayed a tractor trailer with our Missouri license number on
the back of the trailer. We contacted the Illinois State Toll
Highway Authority to begin our investigation. They informed us that our
license plate number had shown up on multiple vehicles. The
aforementioned tractor trailer, a flatbed trailer, a tow truck, and cargo
trailer pulled by a car. The Illinois agent said he could tell they were
paper plates.

Similarly, Kansas showed that the bogus plate number was on a long
flatbed goose neck trailer pulled by a pickup truck.

The tollway activity began on July 1st and continued the entire month.

 Actions taken.

1.     We filed a stolen license plate identity with the Missouri Highway
Patrol.

2.     We contacted the MO Department of Revenue Division of Motor
Vehicles and obtained a new replacement license plate.

3.     We notified the Shrine insurance carrier.

I mentioned the insurance carrier because it was pointed out by the MO
Highway Patrol that any accidents or incidents could come back on
the Ararat Shrine.

Understand, we still had possession of the plate. It was still on our
golf cart trailer in private storage. It has been surmised by
the Illinois agent that someone took a cellphone picture of our trailer
plate in June and began cloning copies for distribution.

Just when we thought it was over, September has brought two new invoices.
One from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for $363. Again, on along
flatbed trailer. This one has yet to be resolved by PA. And yet
another one from Illinois.

There was nothing we could do to prevent this from happening. Cellphone
cameras are everywhere.
