RE: Emergency Preparedness Month Exercise September 27, 28, 29, 2024, Coryell Park

September is National Preparedness Month. The annual awareness raises the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen anytime. Information will be provided on what is needed to prepare for an emergency and what should be included in a “GO BAG” in the event families have to leave their home. An emergency communications ham radio station, W9WKP, Southeast Nebraska Amateur Radio Club will be set up at Coryell Park, 73201 633 Ave, east of Johnson, Nebraska. There will be information on how and what is needed to prepare for an emergency. Ham radio operators can communicate across the world using a radio, antenna and battery. When cell towers are down and the electric grid is taken out by an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) trained, ham radio operators can get a message through. Ham radio stations can set up throughout a community and will be prepared to assist their local community in the event of a blackout or any emergency situation. And, at no cost to taxpayers.

The public is invited to attend and learn the importance of ham radio and how to join the ham community and talk around the world at the drop of a hat. Hams are able to get a message through when all else fails.

The Club’s founder G.C. Bennett, W9WKP, and wife Leota were residents of Auburn before moving to Lincoln.

Friday, September 27, at 7:00 PM, there is a presentation on Why Ham Radio and a You Tube video titled, “Holes in Heaven” and HAARP, over the horizon radio.

The Southeast Nebraska Amateur Radio Club was established in 1936 and one of the oldest clubs still in existence in the United States. It is celebrating 88 years in 2024. Ham radio is a family affair, “Jerry” Bennett’s (W9WKP) son, Chuck Bennett,, KDØPTK, grandson, Jeff Bennett, WØWKP; daughter-in-law Beverly, KDØPTR, and great grandson; Dawson Schrader, WØNIT, are hams.

Please join the family of hams ready to operate with self-serviced apparatus.” Every amateur radio operator owes it to himself to be ready to serve a part in communication emergencies. Service to the public in time of an emergency is a part of the tradition of the amateur radio operator.” G.C. Bennett, 1937 ARRL Nebraska Emergency Coordinator

Thank you.
