Kansas Section News Summary May 2023
-----------------------------
Field Day is here!
Yes, it has been a long wait and now we can take to the
public spaces to set up our stations and practice our skills
in emergency operating conditions in a big way. There is also the
comradery from building a station, operating and packing up at the
conclusion. A couple of clubs did a prevue last month and are reported
in this issue. Our annual operating event is also an open house and show
time for the general public. A neat operating area will be easier to
understand to the non-ham. And it photographs better. Also, signs are a
big help. Not only for out by the road but also in camp to identify
areas and guide folks. ARRL has FD information on the website including
a locator to help you find other public groups:

We have a Governors proclamation for this years Field Day.
Joe, KB0KFH spearheaded the effort along with Charles, KB0SQL
They, along with Assistant Section Manager Ken, AK0A attended the
signing ceremony at the capitol. More were invited but the time was
moved up at the lost moment. A big thank you to that team for the PR.

However you do FD I hope you enjoy the time and get more out of it
than making contacts. 73, Ron

Jayhawk ARS went out to Grinter Place in Kansas City for a P.O.T.A
activation. They operated two positions using a vertical for one and a
G5RV for the other

Santa Fe Trail ARC went out to National Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near
Strong City and activated for P.O.T.A. With three operating positions
they made over 80 contacts. The Flint Hills were quite windy that day
making the 90 degree temp. feel a bit better but band conditions were
not cooperating and fell apart during the event. A dozen members made
the trip including their youngest new member Zach-KF0LQE. Zach logged
seat time on HF while his Dad Tom logged on the computer.

City of Olathe and Santa Fe Trail ARC are planning a Celebration marking
100 years of Amateur Radio on the Ensor Farm. It will be held August 12
and feature a Blue Grass band and more.

Martha, W0ERI; Gary, W0MNA; and Steve, W0SER attended Hamvention and
Five Days In May events in Ohio.

KCDX Club had 65 people attempt the Pile Up Challenge during Hamvention.
New software was implemented for this year and performed well.
