Hi IARC7,
This weekend the IARC is flying a High-Altitude Balloon that has APRS
tracker, a crossband repeater and a "find me" beacon. Time on Saturday is
0930 for launch, but we will setup early to be ready - it is quite a
process. We will be on the grass lawn are at the Oval just north of the
water treatment near the backstop. We will put up some tarps on the
backstop as wind breaks as we expect an 8 mph south wind. We have about
600 feet to gain altitude to miss the backstop and trees near the band
shell. *So, anybody who can come we need you for tether holders, setup,
payload monitors, etc*.
We will fly a GoPro camera to record the full flight, and have a live
C-band video link so we can watch the launch on a monitor at the Park (and
hopefully clear the trees!). * Exciting!*
All are welcome to come to the launch site, and we need volunteers for the
launch and general logistics, but we also need hams throughout the area to
talk to net control on the repeater, and possibly help with recovery.
*Contact
me by email or let me know on the Net tonight at 1900 hrs.*
We hope to hit at least 80,000 feet altitude and if we do, that will give
us a horizon of 300 miles - Omaha, St. Louis, Little Rock, DFW, OKC, Garden
City.
*Pass this to hams you know to try and others I may have left off the list.*
I have attached a detail document with lots of info as well, but here are
some easy links -
*Flight predictor*
<http://predict.habhub.org/#!/uuid=0b170629ec3a8ee6f0b3db8693251cb1c410975d>-
just hit "Run Prediction" to get latest. Run Saturday AM for best guess.
Today's estimate is balloon burst east of Ammunition Plant and landing
south of McCune.
*Balloon Tracker*
<https://aprs.fi/#!mt=roadmap&z=11&call=a%2FAC0AE-11&timerange=21600&tail=21600>-
initially this will show a test run of AC0AE-11 (the balloon), but after
0930 Sat it will change to live track.
If you want to jump onto the repeater, check the attached doc. Around this
area you may just be able to use an HT, but if you have a yagi or similar,
you can track as you would a satellite.
*I will have some HTs at the Park Saturday programmed for the balloon if
you want to use one if you have a problem setting up your radio.*
Thanks and let me know if you have questions.
