Subject: [MCARC] VHF DX last night
Yesterday evening right at 2300 UTC (6 PM CDT) parked about a mile east of
home listening to KCJK 105.1 out of Kansas City which was weak and
fading up and down when it was covered by a station ID of WIOV which
then went into playing a country song (I don't listen to modern country
so have no idea) and it was covered by KCJK again. Looked up WIOV on my
phone and it's out of Ephrata, PA!
Meteor scatter? Seems a long enough path to be so via the E layer.
Later there were a couple of other stations fading around and then I had
to leave as the field work was done.
I just looked at my APRS digi (N0NB-10, 144.390 MHz) record and it did
receive KV3B-1 at 2309 UTC which is located near Germantown, MD, so not
too far from that FM station in about the same time frame. The aprs.fi
site shows that it is 1039 miles from here to KV3B-1.
A very little bit of research shows that the Perseids meteor shower
starts around July 17th. Perhaps these were a couple of rocks that were
just ahead of schedule!
