The gentleman (who is on does podcasts) did an interesting analysis regarding the cost benefit of different radios. 
This podcast is a little over an hour long and then he takes questions for another 45 minutes if you care to listen to that in addition. 
I enjoyed it and it provides some helpful logic into the selection of HF radios.
