I missed the Sunday night net so I will give an update on the Drake TR4 xtal troubleshooting. The radio has a problem in that it doesn’t hear well/at all on 28 to 28.5 MHz. I built a xtal tester that I mentioned in an earlier email and I did get record a 0.23v signal on my scope similar to the pix attached. I later I decided to measure the other two 10m xtals in the radio and they also had a nice sinusoid signal from the tester to the scope except they both had peak to peak voltages over 0.95v or 4 times greater the one I thought was bad. I’m not an expert on xtals and how much signal they need to produce but my guess is that the problem child is bad. I put an request on QRZ under “wanted” and got a reply back from a ham that has a TR4 donor radio that has the xtal and which he is sending to me. I will run it thru the tester first and then put it in the radio to see if it plays better. I just wanted to share my fun and thought you might find it interesting.
