Gallagher did mention in his remarks that the upcoming Federal tax changes will hit him hard as there is a limit on R.E. tax and state income tax deduction allowed when you itemize. I know that CT is one of the higher states in the nation for both taxes and it would not be unreasonable to assume his RE taxes alone would be near $10k limit. I don't know if the discontent that has been circulating on emails and you tube videos have anything to do with his early departure but the timing of the two events could be related, though I have not read anything to indicate this. I personally thought he was doing an excellent job as the CEO. I agree with Nate that there should be an effort to keep non-elected officials from voting on issues that go before the board. Good letter Nate and I'm glad to see Rod also agrees.

ARRL’s chief executive officer for the past 2 years, Tom Gallagher, 
NY2RF, announced his retirement as CEO, as the ARRL Board of Directors 
prepares to meet January 19-20. He will step down on March 2. Gallagher, 
who had earlier advised ARRL President Rick Roderick, K5UR, of his 
intention to resign, expressed his gratitude to Roderick and the ARRL 
Board for giving him the opportunity to help guide the organization.
