Kansas Section News Summary August 2017
KA0BHO-Terry Hoss of Topeka is now a Silent Key.
--------------------------------------------------------------
August was a busy month that included our convention hosted by
Central Kansas ARC at Salina. Rod-K0EQH put the Saturday nite dinner
together for us. More than three dozen attended. The after dinner
program was our Director’s journey in search of Amelia Earhart. K0DAS
spent almost two months in the Pacific with a research group scanning
the ocean floor. K0KFI kicked things off speaking about the eclipse and
how we could participate in the scientific aspect of the event. K0RCJ
explained how to do digital the easy way and the Weather Net bunch got
together to go over protocols and otherwise have an eyeball. Bob-N0MEI
offered some ideas and ways to enhance our relationships with
our state Representatives and Senators. I presented Richard-K0RCJ with
the Public Service Honor Roll Certificate.Did you stop by the YL table
and see Barb, KD0WAU?
Larry Staples-W0AIB Received the Kansas Amateur of the Year award.
Kansas-Nebraska Radio Club has sponsored this award since 1964.
Chuck-N0MXI is the award Administrator.
K0EQH sponsored the annual QLF(Left Foot)contest in the fleamarket and
here are the results:
Jim, K0NK of Gardner was CHAMPION
Wayne, KD0WAT, of Andover, earned 2nd Place
Gary, KB0HH of Burlington took Honorable Mention
And thank you to all that filled the fleamarket and Section meeting.
We might need to move the meeting upstairs to the larger room.

Our QSO Party drew many stations again this year. It appears there
were more logs submitted as well. The number of 1X1 call signs was
increased this time making the weekend more exciting and challenging.
K0S was on the air at Benedictine College in Atchison for the Eclipse.
K0KFI, KE0KQN and KD0JTR operated from the press box, participating
in the ionospheric research aspect of the total solar eclipse.
KB0WOW annual Swap & Shop Sept 30, 11AM at Solid State Sonics, Lower
Silver Lake Road. I understand Barbeque will be available.
Santa Fe Trail communications trailer was flooded in the downpour late
in the month. It was almost totally submerged in the flash flood. They
had just got it completed at Field Day and now had to go all thru it
cleaning and tearing out.
