This past week Joe Taylor, K1JT, released WSJT-X 1.8.0-rc1. While this
is a release candidate, it is available for general use so the
development team can correct some reported issues before its final
release.
This release features a new mode, FT8, that is intended for fast "overs"
for meteor scatter and other short openings. I started playing with it
Thursday evening and now for the past hour have made about 10 QSOs on
6m. For FT8, each transmit sequence last for 15 seconds, so letting the
software take care of the sequencing is essential until a person gains
more experience with the mode.
At the moment I am tuning up my 160/75m doublet and making contacts on
6m!
