[MCARC] Ernie Wolff's callsign history

I do remember the conditional license and Ernie giving the exam. Fred was
good enough to drive and I rode along to KC to get our tickets.

It seems to me that MCRC was changed to MCARC to keep it exclusive for hams.
CB'ers and ham wanna-be's could not be members.

All held a Conditional license (at one time if a person lived beyond a
certain limit of airline miles from the nearest FCC office, one could take
the General exam elements from another amateur who held a General class or
higher license, the result was a Conditional license which had the same
privileges as a General. It was phased out in the late '70s).

I noticed that the club's name on the certificate was Marshall County Radio
Club--MCRC. I wonder if Fred or Doc knew of its existence prior to our
forming MCARC in 1985? Surely, Ernie knew, but I don't recall him saying
anything about it.

73, Nate
