I received the link in the message below from the Oklahoma ARRL mailing
list. The link is to CQ magazine and regards some proposed Articles of
Association and by-laws changes of ARRL. Discussions have been taking
place online since Monday about these proposed changes.
Oddly, or perhaps not oddly, the ARRL's own Website has nothing about
these changes in its news feed.
The change that has most everyone concerned regards giving the ARRL
president and the three vice-presidents one vote each in addition to the
ARRL board members. As it is now, only the board members who are duly
elected by the membership have a vote at Board meetings. The president
and vice-presidents are elected by the Board and not directly by the
membership. At present, each ARRL division has one vote in the Board
meetings. If these changes are adopted, the Dakota Division will have
three votes as two of the vice-presidents reside in that division. As
one person noted, that division would have nearly 16% of the voting
power while only having 3% of ARRL membership!
The link below contains a link to another document with the full text of
the changes. Please take time to look them over if you're an ARRL
member.
Time is short as the Board meets in a couple of weeks. Let our Midwest
Division director know:
Rod Blocksome, K0DAS, k0das at arrl.org
Also, CC the vice-director as well:
Art Zygielbaum, K0AIZ, k0aiz at arrl.org
73, Nate
