At Christmas Stan-WA0CCW became a Silent Key. He had been fighting
cancer and also losing his sight. Many of you knew Stan from Beloit and
the activities of the Kansas –Nebraska Radio Club. He was very active
in the KS-Neb club in past years and continued the Oscar Baker award
after Wendall-W0TQs passing several years ago. Stan was also part of
the broader Kansas Section family, participating with the nets and
functioning as Net Control for Sundays weather net. Most recently he
was manager of our WX nets. He was not only interested in radio but
also computers at a time when you built your own much like some of the
radio kits marketed today. Stan’s knowledge of electronics and
teaching ability will be missed.

Band conditions in the evening have not been the best so far this
winter. The Weather Net gets along all right but at the bottom of the
hour things have been changing somewhat and local signals become weak.
This continues thru QKS, both 7 and 10PM. The morning Weather Nets have
also been difficult at the start but propagation gets better near the
bottom of the hour. Central States Traffic Net on 40 meters has been
about average. Some days are better than others. QKS-SS our slow speed
net holds together at 7:30 PM but some stations are a bit light.

We are well into the new year with new projects, new Field Day and new
friends ahead of us. I thank net managers James-NB0Z, Cary-KB0PPQ,
Dave-KE0DL and returning WX Mgr. Louie-WB0YWZ for pulling it all
together. I also thank all the Net Control Stations for working hard
to keep the information flowing.

The WX0EK folks in Elk County will be on the air January 29th from 9AM
to 2:30PM for Kansas Day. Look around 14.250 QSL card available at
