You’ve probably heard the membership dues are changing January 1,
2016. When I heard about it I thought, when was the last change?
It had been so long that I sorta took it for granted. I see this as an
opportunity to look at the options available. Do I renew for 3 years
now and save 30 dollars or go QRO and save 250 dollars with a Life
membership? With the Life program I can make payments over time then
not have to think about it anymore, and there is a level of respect
that goes along with it. Think about, talk with club members, put it on
paper and see what it looks like. The end of the year is coming soon so
don’t wait too long. Here is a link to the membership page showing a
couple of tables with the different programs:

Fred Fish Memorial Award-
Many of you know Larry Lambert-N0LL from Smith Center is a serious VHF
enthusiast. Recently he completed a journey that began more than 30
years ago. Late in August Larry worked the final continental U.S. grid
square on 6 meters in his quest for the Fred Fish Memorial Award.
33 years, 8 months it took to make contact in all 488 grid squares in
the 48 contiguous states. While traveling through Omaha Larry met with
WN0L who checked his cards. With that part of the process complete the
application was then submitted to ARRL HQ. On October 12 Larry earned
FFMA# 6. Congratulations ! The Fred Fish Memorial Award was created in
honor of Fred Fish, W5FF (SK), who is the first Radio Amateur to have
accomplished this feat.

Jim-KI0CT and Steve-KD0EKS received the 2015 SATERN Shield Award. The
award was created by June-KB0WEQ, the first SATERN Division Coordinator
here, in 2004. Quoting June recipients of the red jacket are “those
who went over and above with extraordinary efforts and who had done
something exceptional to help all members.”

K0RCJ-Richard in McPherson has completed ARRL’s public relations
course.

Central Kansas ARC helped out River Festival with lost child patrol.
Wichita ARC operated Kids Day at Exploration Place in Wichita.

Wichita Hams operated W0W Baseball Around the Clock for the 81st Annual
National Baseball Congress World Series. The station at Lawrence Dumont
stadium made many contacts despite the ambient electrical noise and 20
meters being poor. K0VFW coordinated the event.

Kaw Valleys 145.27 repeater is providing good coverage of Shawnee
county while the 146.67 multi-site system is built.

Field Day is a favorite event for most Hams and Kansans are no
different. We had 35 groups or clubs turn in logs this time with nearly
400 participants. I want to mention NK8O-Charles who set up deep in a
stand of trees west of Louisburg, I was there Saturday nite. His 1B1B
low power single op camp came in 4th in Kansas and 282 nd out of 2720
overall.

Our QSO Party had more than 300 entries and the event grows each year.
