Here's a chance to get an Amateur Radio license!
In addition to filling out a simple form, passing a test of basic radio
technology is all that is needed to qualify for a Technician Class Amateur
Radio license.  The license is issued by the FCC (Federal Communications
Commission) and is good for 10 years.  It is readily renewable at no charge.

HWA offers a license preparation class on the same day as the examination.
The preparation class and examination will be held at Novato Community
Hospital, Sunday, June 14. 
The study session begins at 9:00 AM., with an examination to obtain your
license scheduled at 1:00 PM.  At the License Class, you will be given a
booklet with questions and correct answers which we ask you to read up to
the time of the test.  Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the
materials passes the test.
The License Class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is the first
step in the HWA-sponsored TEAM Radio program. Once you have obtained your
license, we ask you to attend a four-session Communications Class. The
Communications Classes are conducted to assist you with using your radio.
Four class sessions are held in sequence Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to
9:00 PM on-line using the Zoom meeting utility.  As part of this radio
program, we ask you to purchase a two-way radio. Cost of the radio ranges
between $35 and $180, with our recommended radio with accessories well under
$100.
Further, there are on-air exercises held every Monday evening from 7:00 to
7:30 in which you can participate from your home. If you know of any
neighbors who would like to join us in our Radio group, please let them know
about the program!  We would like you to help us build an expanding radio
network in your neighborhood as part of a neighborhood response in the event
where telephone and cell-phone services become unavailable.

Due to the pandemic, we will be conducting the license class and examination
drive-in style from your automobile.  See details below.

Details regarding the June 14 Amateur Radio License Examination conducted by
the Hamilton Wireless Association:
1.	Drive-in, examination will be held Sunday, June 14 in a parking lot
nearby the Novato Community Hospital, Novato, CA
2.	Examinations will be held by reservation only.  Email info at k6bw.org
to reserve a position.  Due to the reservation requirement, we can only
administer one element examination per reservation.  If you plan to take
examinations for more than one element, please let us know to see if we can
accommodate you.
3.	Scheduled time is 1:00pm.  A maximum of 15 candidates will be tested
at one session.  Another exam will be held at 2:30pm if needed.
4.	A license preparation class will be held from 9:00am to 12:30pm.
Cost is $25 which includes the $15 license testing fee.  A study guide will
be issued which can be reviewed until the time of the test.

5.	The test will be conducted outdoors.  Bring sun-screen, a hat or
other sun-protection.  We hope to be able to use trees for shading, but
prepare for a sunny afternoon.
6.	We will give you an application you can fill out in your automobile.
Please bring a copy of your current license if you are upgrading and all
candidates need to show two forms of ID, one with a picture.
7.	We will ask you to sit in a chair in front of your car while taking
the examination.  We will provide folding chairs and may have a limited
number of tables, but please bring a small folding table if you have one.
