The Hamilton Wireless Association encourages those who are interested in
communications in austere conditions to participate in the upcoming Amateur
Radio license event.  The preparation class and examination will be held
Saturday, August 18.  The study session begins at 9:00 AM., with an
examination to obtain your license scheduled at 1:00 PM.

 

The License Class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is the first
step in the HWA-sponsored TEAM Radio program.   At the Saturday License
Class, you will be given a booklet with questions and correct answers which
we ask you to read up to the time of the test.  Experience indicates
virtually everyone who reads the materials passes the test.

 

Once you obtain your Amateur Radio license, we ask you to purchase a two-way
radio. Cost of the radio ranges between $125 and $180. Our recommended radio
is in the $180 range.

 

The cost of the License Class is $25.   If you are planning to attend this
Saturday, please RSVP by email so that we may provide adequate study
material.  If you have not already pre-registered, please bring $25 to cover
the cost of the class and license fee.

 

Directions to Novato Community Hospital:

The License Event will be held at the Novato Community Hospital, located at
the end of Rowland Way, Novato, CA 94945. License prep and exams are held in
the Wilkes-Weiseman Conference Room IC606, in the Medical Offices Building,
165 Rowland Way.  The building parallels the freeway and is located to the
left of the main hospital building.  Parking is available in the lot
immediately to the left when entering the main Hospital parking lot.

To reach the Hospital, travel on Highway 101. From the north of Novato, exit
on Rowland Way. Turn left and drive over the overpass and continue on
Rowland Way. Note Rowland Way takes a jog: turn left at the second
intersection on the east side of the freeway. The hospital is located at the
end of Rowland Way.

>From the south of Novato on Highway 101, take the Roland Way exit. Turn
right at the intersection and left at the next intersection. The hospital is
located at the end of Rowland Way. Look for the parking lot on the left-hand
side of the main entrance.

Our "Marin Teams" mailing list provides announcements of upcoming classes,
and current information about the program.  The list also provides a way to
communicate among our TEAM Radio members.  If you are not already a
subscriber, we will place your email on the list.  Please email your name,
full address, and phone number to members at k6bw.org.

 

Once you have obtained your license, we invite you to attend a four-session
Communications Class as an independent TEAM Radio training.   We would like
you to help us build an expanding radio network in your neighborhood as part
of a neighborhood response in the event of an austere event.   The
Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you with
using your radio.  There are four class sessions which are held in sequence
Thursday evenings at Hamilton from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.   Further, there are
on-air exercises held every Monday evening from 7:00 to 7:30 in which you
can participate from your home.   If you know of any neighbors who would
like to join us in our Radio group, please let them know about the program!
