The Hamilton Wireless Association invites those who are interested in
emergency communication to participate in the upcoming Amateur Radio license
event. No previous experience is necessary. The preparation class and
examination will be held this Saturday, February 14. The study session
begins at 9:00am., with an examination to obtain your FCC Amateur Radio
license scheduled at 1:00pm. You will be given a booklet with questions and
correct answers which we ask you to read up to the time of the test.
Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the materials passes the
35 question multiple-choice exam.
This event is a one-session held only to obtain an FCC Amateur Radio
license.
The cost of the License event is $25. If you are planning to attend this
Saturday, please RSVP by email so that we may provide adequate study
material. Due to the late date, we will accept walk-in candidates on
Saturday. Please arrive a little before 9:00am to allow time to register.
The License event offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is the first
step in the HWA-sponsored CERT Radio program. Once you have obtained your
license, we invite you to attend a four-session Communications Class as an
independent extension to CERT (Community Emergency Resource Team) training.
The Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you
with using your radio. There are four class sessions which are held in
sequence, one class each week, Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Additionally, there are on-air exercises held every Monday evening from 7:00
to 7:30 in which you can participate from your home.
As part of the program, we ask you to purchase a two-way radio. Cost of the
radio ranges between $125 and $180. Our recommended radio is in the $180
range. An imported radio is also available for under $50 that provides
excellent performance.
Our "Marin Teams" mailing list provides announcements of upcoming classes,
and current information, and also provides a way to communicate among our
CERT Radio members. If you are not already a subscriber, we will add your
email to the list. We actively support communications for members of the
Marin Medical Reserve Corps.
We would like you to help us build an expanding emergency radio network in
your neighborhood as part of a neighborhood response in the event of a
disaster. If you know of any Marin Medical Reserve Corps (MMRC) or CERT
member(s) who would like to join us in our Radio group, please let them know
about the program!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call.
Sincerely,
Bill Smith, AB6MT
