Hello Paul. Thanks for your note. We (the West Marin Disaster Council)
have set up an extensive GMRS system with 7 repeaters and 120+ radios in
use. The system includes communications centers in the West Marin fire
stations as well as mobile and hand held units. An EOC here at KWMR ties
the system into the radio station so information can be broadcast quickly.
The system went into service in 2005 and was first used in the 2005/2006
New Year's Eve floods. Most recently the system was activated in
connection with the Napa earthquake.
The WMDC employs a structured system in which so-called Neighborhood
Liaisons use FRS radios to communicate among themselves and with their Area
Coordinators. The Area Coordinators use professional radios to relay
information to the communications centers and KWMR via the repeaters.
The repeaters range from low power, solar powered units serving particular
towns to high level, high power repeaters serving wide areas.
I'd be happy to discuss your plans for your system if you think that might
be helpful.
Regards,
RD
