The Hamilton Wireless Association encourages those who are interested in
emergency communication to participate in the upcoming Amateur Radio license
event. In addition to filling out a simple form, passing a test of basic
radio technology is all that is needed. For those who have taken CERT (or
have a firm commitment to do so in the near future) or are members of the
Medical Reserve Corps, HWA offers a license preparation class in addition to
the FCC Amateur Radio examination.
The preparation class and examination will be held Saturday, November 15 at
Suite 101, Novato Community Hospital. Note this is a change in date and
location from our previously published schedule. The study session on
Saturday, November 15 begins at 9:00am., with an examination to obtain your
license scheduled at 1:00pm. At the license class, you will be given a
booklet with questions and correct answers which we ask you to read up to
the time of the test. Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the
materials passes the test.
The cost of the License Class is $25. It is important to pre-register.
Send your name, address, email and phone number along with $25 to

Our "Marin Teams" mailing list provides announcements of upcoming classes,
and current information about the program. The list also provides a way to
communicate among our CERT Radio members. If you are not already a
subscriber, ask to be placed on the list.
Once you obtain your Amateur Radio license, we ask you to purchase a two-way
radio. Cost of the radio ranges between $125 and $180. Our recommended radio
is in the $180 range.
The License Class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is the first
step in the HWA-sponsored CERT Radio program. Once you have obtained your
license, we invite you to attend a four-session Communications Class as an
independent extension to CERT (Community Emergency Resource Team) training.
We would like you to help us build an expanding emergency radio network in
your neighborhood as part of a neighborhood response in the event of a
disaster. We actively support communications for members of MMRC (Marin
Medical Reserve Corps).
The Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you
with using your radio. There are four class sessions which are held in
sequence each Thursday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Further, there are
on-air exercises held every Monday evening from 7:00 to 7:30 in which you
can participate from your home. If you know of any MMRC or CERT member(s)
who would like to join us in our Radio group, please let them know about the
program!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call.
Sincerely,
Bill Smith, AB6MT
