It has been suggested that pre-training would be helpful prior to the FCC
Radio Licensing class scheduled for Saturday June 15, 2013.

As you know, the Hamilton Wireless Association offers a one-day license
class to prepare new radio operators to pass the FCC Technician license.
This class is offered on the same day of the examination. The class focus
is on passing the test, without attention to learning the material that is
the subject of the examination.

However, some individuals would like to prepare for the examination with a
better understanding of the material, which can only be attained by study.
For those interested, HWA is offering a technology class as an aid to those
individuals who wish to understand the concepts covered in the examination.

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) publishes an excellent license
manual. It is available at Barnes and Noble in the Corte Madera Town
Center. As of May 15, they have two copies available, but can order
additional copies. It is also available online from the ARRL. The cost of
the manual is $29.95.

Another, similar manual is published by Gordon West. It is available online

There are also additional on-line study aids, including free practice tests.

The class will be held at Novato Community Hospital, Wilkes Conference
Room, 180 Rowland Rd., Novato Ca. Wednesdays, 6:00PM - 8:00PM, May 22 &
28, 2013 and June 12, 2013 with Licensing test on Saturday June 15, 2013.
The class will review information in the guides, but due to the short time
from now until June 15, individuals will need to study the material on their
own in addition to attending the classes.

Please RSVP to Loretta Rogers at lrogers at marincounty.org or 415-473-4163 to
register for these classes.

If you have questions regarding these "warm-up" classes or the actual
testing class, please call Communications Unit Leader, Bill Smith at
415-572-2174 or hbco2 at sbcglobal.net.

Remember we need a minimum of 10 people to attend the June 15th class.
