Enclosed is a description of the CERT Radio program. Driving instructions
to the examination location is included below.
The first step in joining CERT Radio is to obtain an Amateur Radio License.
In addition to filling out a simple form, passing a test of basic radio
technology is all that is needed. CERT Radio and the Hamilton Wireless
Association are conducting an Amateur Radio License Class Saturday,
February 11. The study session begins at 9:00am., with a test to obtain
your license scheduled at 1:00pm.
The License Class offered by the Hamilton Wireless Association is part of
the HWA-sponsored CERT Radio program. We offer the License Class in
conjunction with a four-session follow-on Communications Class as an
independent extension to CERT (Community Emergency Resource Team) training,
with the interest of forming an emergency radio network as part of a
neighborhood CERT response in the event of a disaster. We also support
communications for members of MMRC (Marin Medical Reserve Corps).
Communications Classes are conducted on an ongoing basis to assist you with
using your radio. There are four class sessions which are held in sequence
Thursday evenings at Hamilton from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. If you know any MMRC
or CERT member(so) who would like to join us in our Radio group, please let
them know about the program!
At the License Class this Saturday, you will be given a booklet with
questions and correct answers which we ask you to read up to the time of the
test. Experience indicates virtually everyone who reads the materials
passes the test.
Once you obtain your Amateur Radio license, we ask you to purchase a two-way
radio. Cost of the radio ranges between $125 and $180. Our recommended radio
is in the $180 range.
The cost of the License Class is $25. You may pre-register, or pay at the
door. If you would like to pre-register, send our name, address and phone
number along with $25 to
