At the request of the Southern Branch of MMRC, there will be a test of amateur radio contacts among four designated staging areas for disaster response.

We have established volunteers for each site, and a fifth location to be used for relay if necessary. We need five additional volunteers, so that there would be a team of two at each location. It would be great to have stations with more than 5 Watt capability.

The test will be held August 22, 2011, from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM. If it takes any longer than that ,we have committed to end the test at 8:00 PM.

To participate you would need to go to one of the sites, and be there by 6:45 PM. The locations of the staging areas are Del Mar School in Tiburon, Martin Luther King Park in Sausalito, Boyle Park in Mill Valley, Town Park in Corte Madera, and a location to be determined on a hill between Mill Valley and Corte Madera for relay.

The purpose of the test is to determine if the four MMRC staging areas can use amateur radio to maintain contact in a emergency.

The basic test will be done with 5 Watt hand held radios, since these are the most basic of the radios, and most likely to be available. We also hope to determine the advantage of using more power which is why we would love to have volunteers with more powerful equipment.

The task would be to be back up radio at each location and to assist with record keeping of the contacts.
